G.M. Bassett Pattern Inc. has been specializing in the automotive prototype industry for over 62 years. As a premiere automotive prototype company, we take your design and create full pattern equipment and raw castings, supplying you with completely machined parts made to your specifications. By having all these jobs done through G.M. Basset, it enables you to have a completed piece from one reliable source within a very reasonable timeframe.
What We Do
In 1962, our founder, Gerald Bassett Sr., struck out on his own as an independent master pattern maker, establishing the G.M. Bassett Pattern Company. This photograph captures him hand-crafting a mahogany crankshaft casting pattern. This wooden master copy serves as the scaled blueprint to cast the durable pattern equipment, which is ultimately used to shape green sand into the disposable molds used for pouring molten metal.
In 1987, brothers Jerry and Dennis Bassett shoulder the burden of taking the family business into the future after the passing of their father and our founder Gerald. The two brothers picked up the tools and carried on the legacy. The seed Gerald planted continues to grow to this day.
In 1998, Jerry acquired G.M. Bassett's first 3-axis Haas CNC. Along with advancements in CAD software, Jerry charted a course of strategic evolution in digital design and pattern making, allowing for more complex work and faster turnaround.
In 2021, Jerry applied to become a part of the Oakland County Project Diamond initiative. This federal program connects shops digitally, creating a dispersed on demand emergency manufacturing network. With this, G.M. Bassett acquired our first 3D printer and was quickly deployed to make tourniquets for the war in Ukraine. We now run a fleet of 8 printer heads and counting.
Looking ahead, we are rapidly expanding our CNC milling and turning capabilities, have completely overhauled our CAD, CAM, and CRM software suites, and continue to grow our additive manufacturing footprint aggressively. We believe the future is in highly automated and AI driven ecosystems and are pushing to be the leaders in that space, while keeping our feet planted in history.
In 1971, G.M. Bassett Pattern moved into our current space in Farmington Hills, MI. In this photograph, we can see our Senior Advisor and President Jerry Bassett at a young age learning to make models and patterns by hand.
In 1995, G.M. Bassett Pattern Co. officially incorporated to become G.M. Bassett Pattern Inc. ushering in a new era working directly with big name OEM's and Tier 1 suppliers.
In the early 2000s, recognizing shifting industry trends, Jerry sought to leverage our core pattern making capabilities to diversify our product portfolio. He identified a strategic opportunity to apply our team's precision craftsmanship and deep technical knowhow to precision checking fixtures and gages. By manufacturing cost effective fixtures using mahogany and composite materials, we empowered suppliers to seamlessly implement physical, on-the-line quality verification within their operations. Combined pattern tooling and gage revenue quickly approached $1M annually.
In 2025, G.M. Bassett Pattern entered a new era, welcoming fresh leadership and ownership partners. While Jerry continues to support the company as our Senior Advisor, the new executive team brings extensive OEM leadership and deep technological acumen. Armed with decades of combined expertise in advanced CAD modeling, DFM, vehicle integration, enterprise IT architecture, and additive manufacturing, this team is fiercely committed to revitalizing American manufacturing and expanding the Bassett footprint across the US.
